Update: March 31st, 2020

115% Increase in Offering of Network Leases for E-technology

Looking ahead we believe that the challenges for air freight capacity will persist and we want to do our part to prevent a situation where containers become stuck, exposing our Lessees to extended lease durations. In order to help overcome these challenges, Envirotainer will more than double the number of network (one-way) lease options.

In short;

  • 115% increase in the number of network (one-way) lease options for RKN e1 and RAP e2
  • All current lease options (round trip, round trip flex and network) remain as today
  • A repositioning surcharge will be added to all network (one-way) leases, with the exception of leases that end in Europe and for RAP e2 with release in Japan and return in US/Puerto Rico or Canada.

There are two main components to this:

1. Starting March 31st, 2020, the following network (one-way) lease options will be added:
RKN e1
• Network leases with release from all stations globally (except China) - with return to all stations in Europe.
• Network leases with release from all stations in US/Puerto Rico and Canada - with return to all stations in Asia-Pacific (except China and India).
RAP e2
• Network leases with release from all stations globally (except China and India) - with return to all stations in Europe.
• Network leases with release from all stations in US/Puerto Rico and Canada - with return to the following countries in Asia-Pacific: Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Singapore.

2. Repositioning surcharge:
Due to the recent increase in freight rates and reduction of available air capacity, we are unfortunately forced to levy a repositioning surcharge on all network leases, including any existing customized commercial offers in place, of USD/EUR500 (RKN e1) and USD/EUR 1,400 (RAP e2).

With three exceptions:
1. No repositioning surcharge apply for network leases that are returned to stations in Europe.
2. No repositioning surcharge apply for network leases for RAP e2 with release in Japan - with return in US/Puerto Rico or Canada.
3. Network leases from all stations in Europe – with return in the US/Puerto Rico or Canada will have a reduced repositioning surcharge of USD/EUR 300 (RKN e1) and USD/EUR 800 (RAP e2).

The extended network capabilities are made available under the current Master Lease Agreement (MLA) and can be booked through the Envirotainer Customer Portal starting March 31st, 2020.

We hope that the increased number of network lease options will create more flexibility for our customers as you continue to make use of our fleet of over 6,000 active ULD’s, available from more than 50 stations across the globe.

Envirotainer Contingency Plan during COVID-19 Pandemic

We are committed to doing what we can to ensure the safe delivery of life-saving medicines to the patients who depend upon them. Our operating procedures in our stations are working as planned to fulfill orders and we are confident we can continue to deliver an uninterrupted service to our customers for the foreseeable future.

Maintaining the integrity of Envirotainer Operations and Health of Employees

Corona viruses (such as COVID-19) may persist on surfaces for a few hours up to a number of days (based on WHO). The risk of contracting the virus via touching an air freight container/surface is reduced due to changes in temperature and air pressure during transport. In addition, the precautions taken by our stations as part of the standard operating procedures– as stated below – further reduces any risk.

  • The container itself is washed upon arrival to a station with steam/hot water which makes any remaining droplets of the virus less potent and removes the risk of spreading the COVID-19 further.
  • We stress for our station employees that the most important preventive measure for COVID-19 is to disinfect their hands regularly with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water and avoid touching their eyes, mouth, or nose.

Additional measures to support business operations during COVID-19 Pandemic

Our customer service team and logistics planners are working out of several locations in three continents and seamlessly cover for each other. In areas that have been more directly affected by COVID-19, we have also implemented additional measures:

  • Daily temperature taking of Envirotainer station staff.
  • A strict policy of not reporting for work at an Envirotainer station when feeling unwell.
  • Separate work teams working in shifts with no overlap to mitigate risk of virus affecting entire workforce in a specific station is/can be implemented depending on risk analysis.

Questions and Answers

Q: With commercial air freight capacity being so reduced, what is Envirotainer doing to help?
A: It is a very fluid situation and we have dialogues on a daily basis with our customers to find common solutions. We have containers available from our 50+ stations and the largest one-way network in the industry so we try to come up with workable solutions for all involved parties. We’re agile and take as many orders as possible until the last minute. We have put in place more general actions such as waiving cancellation fees into countries where that would be helpful for customers. We also waived express fees between Europe and the US when the two-way travel bans were imposed to try to get as many shipments out as possible before air traffic is reduced to a trickle.

Q: How do you ensure that the containers are not spreading the virus?
A: The container itself is washed upon arrival to a station with steam/hot water which makes any remaining droplets of the virus less potent and removes the risk of spreading the COVID-19 further. In addition, the risk of contracting the virus via touching an air freight container/surface is reduced due to changes in temperature and air pressure during transport.

Q: Will you run out of spare parts if this continues for another couple of months?
A: As we have our own inhouse R&D and production in Sweden we, early on, bumped-up the production of spare parts and distributed them to our stations across the world. We have ample supply of spare parts.

Q: My shipping route is via a region in lock down due to Covid-19. Will the airports and ground handlers be affected by the governmental quarantine restrictions?
A: Envirotainer, together with our partners, have a critical and unique social responsibility of ensuring a well-functioning cold chain for international air transport of pharmaceuticals. The Healthcare Operations eco-system requires all participants, including ground-handlers, to stay fully operational. Envirotainer has provided our ground handling stations with a formal letter to assist them in their dialogue with relevant authorities.

Q: Why is Envirotainer and its station staff working as usual in places where the entire population should be in lock-down?
A: We are following the local authorities’ recommendations. Our employees’ health is what matters most to us and we take all possible precautions to ensure the well-being of our employees. At the same time, we have a critical and unique social responsibility of ensuring a well-functioning cold chain for air transport of pharmaceuticals, so we are doing our utmost to help medicines reach the patients.

Q: I’m not sure if there will be a return flight so I may not be able to return the container in time, can I return somewhere else instead?
A: Envirotainer has more than 50+ stations operating at full capacity around the world so there are many options. Changing return station after SOL is normally associated with a repositioning cost as we then have to move the unit to a different station. We will of course do our utmost to help, so please reach out to our Customer Service to see what the options are.

Q: I need to lease a large number of units for a freighter, can Envirotainer support?
A: Yes. We are running at 100% availability and are helping a number of our customers currently with large volume shipments. In fact, we just helped one pharmaceutical customer ship more than 50 RKN e1 units in two shipments.

Further Measures to Ensure the Delivery of Medicines during COVID-19 Pandemic

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, and the subsequent flight cancellations that it is causing, we are proud to share that Envirotainer has maintained 100% availability of containers to our customers and zero (0) missed orders across the globe. We are committed to doing what we can to ensure the safe delivery of life-saving medicines to the patients who depend upon them.

Our standard operating procedures in our stations are working as planned to fulfill orders and we are confident we can continue to deliver an uninterrupted service to our customers for the foreseeable future.

It is, however, a very fluid and challenging situation as airlines are forced to reduce their operations due to passenger demand. One such example is the recent ban on passenger travel from Europe to the US. As a consequence, we took a number of short-term actions last week to alleviate some of the challenges our customers will face as airlines modify their schedules to comply with the travel restrictions.  Our ambition was to help our customers get as many shipments off the ground as possible during the 48 hours leading up to the ban.

Additional measures to support business operations

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find air freight capacity. Envirotainer would like to help alleviate the situation by the following action:

  1. Waiver of Cancellation fees: Envirotainer will waive cancellation fees until April 30th, 2020, for bookings to destinations within the following countries in APAC:
  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • China
  • Singapore
  • Taiwan
  • Hong Kong
  1. Extension of Temporary Waiver of Express fees: Envirotainer will waive express fees when making bookings between Schengen countries, UK & Ireland and the United States of America for the length of the 30-day US travel ban, ending April 14th, 2020.

Update: March 12th, 2020

Measures to Support Business Operations in Light of Upcoming Travel Restrictions between Schengen and United States of America

During the current outbreak of COVID-19, and the subsequent flight cancellations that will occur as a consequence of the travel restrictions put in place by the US for passengers from Schengen area to the United States of America, Envirotainer is committed to doing what we can to help our customers and to ensure the safe delivery of life-saving medicines to patients who depend upon them.

Measures to support business operations for flights between Schengen countries and the US

It will become difficult to find cargo capacity between Schengen countries and the United States of America. Envirotainer would like to alleviate the situation by the following actions:

  1. Temporary waiver of Cancellation fees: Envirotainer will waive cancellation fees when cancelling existing bookings between Schengen countries and the United States of America with Start of Lease (SOL) after Friday, March 13th, 2020.
  2. Temporary Removal of Cut-off Times: Please send in all orders for shipments between Schengen countries and the United States of America ASAP and we will do our utmost to deliver units to you. We have temporarily removed the cut-off time until the travel ban comes into effect and will work 24/7 until then to manage orders during this extraordinary situation.
  3. Temporary Waiver of Express fees: Envirotainer will temporarily waive express fees when making bookings between Schengen countries and the United States of America to facilitate uplift.

So far, our standard operating procedures of supplying units to our stations where customers require is working as planned to fulfill all orders. Moving forward

We will continuously track the developments at a global level, and we will make the necessary adjustments to our network to support the pharmaceutical supply chain during this period of uncertainty.

For larger shipments in and out of affected areas, we would encourage a longer advance notice than normal to allow for assurance of units.
